Chapel is a very important part of the school week at MCS. Each Friday morning, every student from K-12 attends a chapel service. The students sing praise songs, pray, and listen to a speaker. The speakers range from parents to local pastors to school teachers.
The Battle of Going It Alone
“I need some volunteers. Junior boys, please come sit in the front row.” said chapel speaker Mr. Bob Lemon. By request, Jacob Frey and Copy Perman were picked to demonstrate how we cannot do life alone. Cody was asked to do a plank (which is a certain type of ab work out, where you hold yourself up by your arms and your toes) for as long as possible, and Jacob had to hold his arms straight out , hold two books on top, and keep them up for as long as possible. It was a pretty funny sight to watch, but it did have a great message – We can do life for a while on our own, but after awhile it gets hard and we need God’s help. Mr. Lemon went on to talk about the story of the Battle of the Amalekites in Exodus 17. He talked about how Hur and Aaron had to help Moses hold his arms up to keep the sun from setting, all so that the Israelites could win the battle. We know, in reality, that it was not Moses’ arms that helped them win, but instead it was God helping them win. To show this story, the rest of the junior boys acted out the story, while Mr. Lemon read it. Luke Williams represented the Israelites, Caleb Muller represented the Amalekites, Scott Lemon played the role of Aaron, Luke McCullough played role of Hur, and Alex BeaRobe-Hofwalt played the role of Moses. I think the boys did a great job, considering they did not know about it until they were already up there.
