Class Descriptions --

Bible Classes:

9th Grade Bible                                1 Credit             Year       Grade 9

Old Testament Survey - This yearlong course will present familiar stories from the Old Testament, but also it will introduce concepts regarding writing styles and over-arching themes that are found throughout the Old Testament.

10th Grade Bible                               1 Credit             Year       Grade 10

The study of Church History introduces us to some of the great and some not so great people of the past. Looking at these people shows us martyrs and villans. These saints and sinners shaped the modern church. Church History is also the study of worldviews, theology, philosophy, and the great and not so great movements within and outside of the Church. There is a full examination of the above areas of people and movements throughout the year. We study the history of the church through the searchlight of Scripture, themes of sin, salvation and service.

11th Grade Bible                                ½ Credit             Semester            Grade 11

Life of Christ - Students will examine the life of Christ as depicted in the Gospel of Luke. Through study of the text and related commentaries, students will gain insight to the life and ministry of Christ during His time on earth.

11th Grade Bible                                  ½ Credit            Semester            Grade 11

One Plus One - A Christian perspective on marriage and the family. It will examine how a Christian marriage can stand as a testament to happiness and success based on a commitment to Biblical principles.

12th Grade Bible                              ½ Credit            Semester            Grade 12

Bible Doctrine is a one semester course for seniors. Doctrine means "teaching." God's Bible instructs us with lessons for mankind. Bible doctrines is the analysis of the written World of God. This study involves the organization of the different aspects of God's revelation into the component parts (e.g: God, Christ, the Holy Spirit, man, salvation, the church, ect). This course helps the student clarify what we as Christians believe and why. It is also important to be polemic and identify what we are not to believe. Bible doctrine helps us to know what to tell someone else about the faith once delivered unto the saints and to appreciate our personal spiritual blessings.

12th Grade Bible                                   ½ Credit           Semester            Grade 12

Apologetics - The word "apologetics" comes from the Greek word "apologia" which means "a verbal defense." Christian apologetics is a study that deals with answering any and all critics and those who oppose the revelation of God in Christ and the Bible. It is both offensive and defensive. It is a study of what we think before we think. The apologetics course helps the student to defend a Biblical system that is completely Christian. We study comparative religions and cults and how to witness to them of the only way to God, namely Jesus Christ. The center of our thought is to be from the texts of the Bible. We are to look at all of reality through glasses with corrected lens which is the Word of God.

12th Grade Philosophy                               1 Credit            Year       Grade 12

Understanding the Times - The year-long comparative worldview and apologetics curriculum seeks to open the eyes of students to the war of ideas that is being waged for their hearts and minds. It will help protect Christian young people from being deceived by anti-Christian worldviews and will help train up Christian leaders who can actively champion the truth of Christianity in a culture of relativism, paganism, hedonism, and confusion. This course can be taken for college credits through Bryan College in Dayton, Tennessee.

Introduction to Life Calling                          37 Class Hours   Year      Grade 12

This course focuses on students developing an understanding of the concept of their life purpose and calling. They would use this understanding as the context for making decisions and gaining direction for their lives. Students will explore their own foundational values, unique design and personal mission as the most effective approach to gaining an understanding of life purpose and calling. A key component of this course would concentrate on the discovery of one's God-given strengths, passions, and experiences as a basis for their calling. Students are then led to understand how work, relationships, and individual leadership is best understood from this life calling perspective.

Math Classes:

Algebra 1 reviews and builds upon the operations and use of fractions, decimals, number theory, and evaluation of algebraic expressions, solving equations, area, volume, surface area, statistics, and probability. Students are introduced to conjunctions and disjunctions, solving more difficult equations, properties of exponents, properties of radicals, polynomials and polynomial operations, statistical representations, equations of lines, factoring, and basic trigonometry. Students begin to explore the fundamentals of the language of algebra in its basic concepts, structure, logic, and procedures to successfully represent relationships that can be found in various laws of nature in God's created universe.

Algebra II                                  1 Credit              Year       Grade 9-12

Content includes an introduction to geometry through points, lines, and planes; reasoning and logic; using parallel and perpendicular lines; triangles, quadrilaterals, and other polygons; proportion and similarity; right triangle trigonometry; circles; surface area and volume; writing and graphing linear equations; vectors; and transformations. Successful students will learn the value of reasoning skills and integrating those skills with numerous physical and social mathematical applications.

Advanced Math                                     1 Credit             Year       Grade 10,11,12

This course uses the sound basis of two years of algebra to move into more upper-level math concepts. Included are studies in topics such as trigonometry, logarithms, analytic geometry, problem solving and completion of geometry, which is spread throughout Algebra I, Algebra II and Advanced Math. This one-year course, when completed successfully provides one credit towards graduation as well as being accepted for pre-calculus level math for college entrance.

Pre-Calculus                                          1 Credit            Year       Grade 11,12

A prerequisite for this class is to have successfully completed one year of Advanced Math. Pre-Calculus continues the study of the various polynomials in Advanced Math with a strong emphasis on the relationship of the graph and equation relationships as well as the correlations between them. Geometry, algebra, and trigonometry become increasingly important when taking this course. Beginning topics of derivative and integral are developed to prepare the student for a year of Calculus. Successfully completing this course earns one credit for the student toward graduation.

Calculus                                                  1 Credit           Year       Grade 12

The one-year calculus course is designed for the student who has ideally completed one year of Pre-Calculus. The course is well suited for those students having a high interest in the physical sciences and other majors with significant mathematical usage. Major content areas would continue with an intensive review of topics from algebra, trigonometry and analytic geometry. In depth focus is applied to the calculus through wider examination of limits, continuity, the derivative, differentiation, and integration in solving various problems often related to various fields of science. At the successful completion, the student receives one credit toward high school graduation. This course will be recognized for appropriate college requirements.
