Adam Nash

"I grew up in the church; literally, grew up there. My dad was the pastor of our church and he had the key. So anytime the doors were open--or even closed--I was there. A PK through and through. I knew all the answers and because of who my parents were, I thought that made me a Christian. That kind of exposure to Christianity made it almost second nature to me. However, it did not produce a genuine relationship with Jesus. That would come later.

Now don't get me wrong, growing up in a Christian home was a blessing for me--I didn't always appreciate it and it didn't always produce positive results at the time, but the older I get the more I am seeing the benefits. One such benefit is the sacrifice my parents made to put me through Christian education.

From Kindergarten to 12th grade, I attended Mitchell Christian--from 3 days a week with a snack and naptime to the weeklong rigors of Mr. Goehring's accounting class, Rev. Hart's Bible class, and Coach Young's basketball practice. The school shaped me into the person I am today by instilling in me the desire to learn and to seek out the truth. I understand Christian education is not for everyone, but for me, it was very helpful in my walk with God. In school, I was challenged by my teachers and coaches to be the best I could be in academics, sports, and more importantly my walk with God.

But these great teachers were only part of my education. The friends I had while attending Mitchell Christian have made a huge impact on my life as well. One thing that I liked--and sometimes I hated--was how small our school was. Some of my classmates who graduated with me in 2004 were the same ones who walked into kindergarten with me 13 years earlier. Considering the fact that my graduating class had 10 girls and only 3 boys, there was no choice but to become brothers! We experienced life together; from youth group to church camp, and field trips to mission trips. Through it all, the good and the bad, the triumphs and the failures, we grew.

The solid foundation I received from home and from school only grew stronger as I went through college. It was here, that I truly began to appreciate how blessed I was to grow up in such a Christ-centered environment. The things I learned growing up, were being used to make my faith my own. I adopted Colossians 3:23 as my motto, which says: "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart as working for the Lord, not for men..." My relationship with Jesus became more than just going to church on Sunday. Christ wasn't just a part of my life; He was my life. I began to see Him in all things.

I can see that God's hand has been upon me and has always been guiding me through life. And even now, his presence is evident, and is leading me to deeper things. I am excited for his calling on my life to do mission work, and am forever grateful for the upbringing I had. I know that without it, I would not be where I am today." -- Adam Nash (Graduate 2004)

“To say that a Christian education is an ‘important thing’ would be a bit of an understatement. As I look back, I can see the impact that a Christian education has had on my life. I grew up in an atmosphere where I was surrounded by Godly truth. I was able to build a solid foundation on God’s Word – a foundation that has always, and continues to, withstand the tests of our world. I thank God that my parents made it a priority to invest in my future by allowing me the opportunity to attend MCS.” – Andy Oleson (Graduate 2005)

"Mitchell Christian has provided me with a strong foundation, especially as I am considering a ministry career. I am convinced that attending Mitchell Christian School kept me out of much of the trouble that is common to high school students.  The Spanish classes prepared me well for my college Spanish class, and I didn’t need to take any remedial classes when I entered college. As far as education goes I feel that I received a fair education, which gave me a head start over my public school peers. My best memories of high school came from playing soccer and competing in track and field." –Travis Knight (Graduate 2006)

“I attended MCS from second grade all the way through my graduation. MCS is a small but tightly bound school. Everyone knows everyone. It is definitely nice to not have to worry about being in a class of a hundred or more. It’s also nice because no one is afraid to sit by whoever they want. The fellowship is also great! Our school has always been close.

MCS really helped me in the Bible area for college. I have felt very prepared for tests and papers. It is nice to be slightly ahead. MCS teachers did a great job in that area. My senior mission trip also pushed me to decide that I really want to do missions. I had never been on a mission trip before my senior year. At first it was quite a shock to see what the world is really like, compared to our small town of Mitchell. The people were just searching and trying to belong. It was really touching. This pushed me to want to do missions. I am definitely excited about pursuing a mission career or track. My senior mission trip made me want to help others and bring them to Christ. The mission trips are definitely one of the best parts about MCS. I made a great choice by going to MCS. I gained many friends, some of which are my best friends, and I stayed grounded in my faith.” – Sydney VanLaecken (Graduate 2008)

“MCS has always been a part of my life. My dad has taught at the school for over ten years and since the first day of Kindergarten, MCS has always played a big role. While MCS may not offer as many courses as the public school, what you get out of MCS is better than all the courses you can take there. Godly teachers become your role models and heroes. Miss Shearon (who left the school in 2008) will forever be one of my greatest heroes. It is teachers like her that make the school what it is and sets it apart from other schools. Teachers take the time to get to know you, learn about your family, and know your personal learning styles and the way they can best help you.

At MCS, you not only receive adequate teaching, they prepare you for the real world outside of MCS. Alumni from MCS have come back grateful for the teaching they received and the preparation for facing the differing worldviews out there. MCS teaches a Christian worldview and a solid foundation for the rest of your life. I am so grateful my parents have kept us so involved with MCS and have allowed my brothers and I to attend here.” – Kayla Lemon (Current Student – Senior/Graduate 2009)

"I came to MCS my junior year of high school. Although I have only attended MCS for two years, I feel that the school has made a big impact on my life. The classes have kept me challenged, and I feel that I will be well prepared for the coming years of college. It is a huge blessing to be able to attend a school where we can have prayer and devotions before class, chapel once a week, and speak freely about God. My best memories of high school at MCS are going on a mission trip to Brazil my junior year and going to the state cross country meet my senior year." –Rachel McCullough (Current Student- Senior/ Graduate 2009)

"This school has been a great place to grow. I have grown closer to God with every step I have taken. What's great about this school is that God is at the center and I believe we can't progress without that. It is so awesome to have the freedom to pray and talk to God without getting into trouble. A lot of times, we take that for granted. Another thing is that the teachers are there to help us with life problems we all have. In all, this school has helped me with every step in life." - Luke Williams (Current Student - Freshman/Graduate 2012)
