Born and raised in the Philippines, Mrs. Cheryl Garmong attended high school at Centro Escolar University, a girls only school. She later attended Aquinas University in Legaspi , Philippines and Mt. St. Mary's University in Maryland. She and her husband Jeff have been married for over 25 years and have a son Tom. When not found in the classroom, Mrs. Garmong likes reading, watching DVDs, going to museums and zoos, listening and singing to music, driving through the countryside, and exchanging emails, letters, phone calls and Christmas cards.
While attending Aquinas University in the Philippines she received her Bachelor of Science in Zoology (Pre-Med). She later came to the United States and attended Hagerstown Community College (for two US History courses) and Mt. St. Mary's University in Emmitsburg, Maryland for her Masters in Elementary Science. Her passion for science started at a very young age. Mrs. Garmong wanted to be a doctor but could not afford medical school and soon after that her priorities changed. She always loved science.
Mrs. Garmong's life verse is Psalm 37:4, "Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart." Her classroom philosophy is that students are all gifted, created with god's purposes and plans. She prays that God will use her to help them. When her classes leave MCS, Mrs. Garmong wants them to leave with a Biblical Worldview, full confidence that God will use them wherever he places them and with a love for learning and service to the glory of God. Mrs. Garmong has never been on a mission trip except for the service projects she did when she was in college. Her weekend service projects helped her realize the importance of culturally-relevant approaches and the importance of prayer and listening to the person you are serving with no preconceived notions. She also learned to be more open to people.
